As much as some cam models love the work and have found success in this industry, there are also real issues that can arise. Cam girls often find themselves working unsociable hours and may struggle with financial instability – like many other client facing jobs. And, as with any profession, cam modelling can bring personal niggles such as body image.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t a good choice for men. Many become regulars with a model and feel as though they know her on a personal level. And that can be a beautiful thing. The girl can develop a connection with the customer, and a man gets dopamine hits from both the sight of her and the girl’s response to his requests.
It can be easy to forget, however, that camgirls are still professionals and this is their job. And the reality is that this kind of interaction is addictive and voyeuristic. It’s similar to the way that casinos make their money – exploiting addictive behaviour. But unlike casinos, the camgirls aren’t selling drugs – they’re selling a fantasy.
Rather than treating camgirls as digital strippers, we should treat them with respect. They aren’t trying to seduce you, they’re just trying to do their job well. Those that want to be tipped should do so, but don’t tell them they’re ugly or suggest things that are inappropriate. It’s not their fault that this kind of language is commonplace in chat rooms, but it is a shame that it exists.
