In our capitalistic society, female beauty has been effectively monetised by cam sites. For a man, seeing an attractive woman on a screen gives them dopamine hits. This feeling is amplified when the girl is interacting with them personally (such as answering requests or calling them by their name) and they spend tokens to get more of those dopamine hits.
Men become regulars with a particular camgirl. They start to feel like they know her on a personal level and some even fall in love with her. But this does not mean the girl cares about them on a personal level – her only concern is getting tokens from them.
Isa Mazzei, the author of Camgirl, explains that there is a lot more work behind the scenes than people generally realise. She talks about the challenges of being a camgirl in this week’s episode of the LGBTQ&Apodcast. She also discusses how her time as a camgirl reshaped her views on consent in sexual relationships.
