It’s the most seedy job in The Boys universe, but one that pays a pretty penny too. Cam girls are paid by men who pay for the privilege of watching them jiggle their asses in cake frosting or chat about Richard Dawkins with a tone of voice that screams Cartesian Dualism. It’s an industry where the “everything alright for you there, sir?” culture of customer service bleeds into the sexy stuff.
The Female, who first appeared in issue #2 and is known for her animalistic brutality, explains how she’s had to learn to set boundaries with her regulars. She says some of them are so intense that it can be hard to tell if they’re just trying to roleplay or really need her. But she adds that, ultimately, camming is like any other service industry – you get to know your regulars and they get to know you.
She talks about how there’s no cookie-cutter cam girl type or routine and that the best ones combine weirdness with nudity to stand out. She notes that Aella has had a lot of success because of her humour and spontaneity, and that camming is often a sort of performance art.
She points out that camming can be very addictive and that many camgirls live two separate lives – the reality of their jobs, and the sexy side of their life they show to adoring fans online. It’s a very difficult balance to strike. She also talks about how camming is like a casino, with the majority of profits coming from a small number of addicts who spend lots of tokens.
